Adoption Ark would like to bring your attention to, two important pieces of legislature regarding adoption and the orphan crisis; the Families for Orphans Act (H.R. 3070 and S. 1458) and the Foreign Adopted Children Equality Act (S. 1359. We support these Acts and are encouraged to to see important issues of this type receiving much need attention.
The Families for Orphans Act Introduced by Senator Mary Landrieu and James Inhofe (R-OK) and Representatives John Boozman (R-Arkansas) and Diane Watson (D-Ca), will create a brand new department located within our Department of State designated specifically for Orphan Policy, Diplomacy and Development. This new department would be responsible for designing and implementing new ideas and put into work ways to help orphans in the US and abroad. It will advocate for keeping families together and also find easier ways to facilitate international adoptions.
The Foreign Adopted Children Equality Act or FACE Act introduced by Senators Mary Landrieu (D-LA) and James Inhofe (R-OK) and Representatives Diane Watson (D-CA) and John Boozman (R-AR), is also very important because it would allow children adopted abroad to be removed from the traditional immigration process and acquire full rights just as those of natural born US children.
Adoption Ark supports both Acts because we believe they will ease the adoption process for thousands of parents and children, and allow more children who are desperately waiting for families to be adopted by US citizens. We are also very encouraged to to see important issues of this type receiving much needed attention.
